Pinetop-Lakeside AZ Real Estate in Arizona

A bachelor named Johnny Phipps (d.1890) ran a saloon for the black soldiers from Fort Apache. William L. Penrod (b.1831 d. Aug 21, 1916), and his family moved near Show Low in 1878, arriving from Utah and settling in Phipps' house. Initially the place was called Penrod. When Phipps died, Walt Rigney took over and soldier began calling the place Pinetop, their nickname for Rigney. The location is in pines near the top of the Mogollon Rim. The Post Office Dep. abandoned the name Penrod and accepted the name Pinetop.

The history of Pinetop and Lakeside are two in the same and many people consider the two cities one in the same. In 1984 the two towns were incorporated and they are now the town of Pinetop-Lakeside. But, most of the residents who have lived here awhile still refer to the towns separately. You live in Lakeside and I live in Pinetop. To this day there is a Lakeside post office and a Pinetop post office.

Situated in the largest stand of Ponderosa Pines in the world, Pinetop-Lakeside offers visitors a cool alpine retreat in the heart of the White Mountains. Incorporated in 1984, the town of Pinetop-Lakeside sits at an elevation of 7200 feet. Its year-round population of 4,055 jumps to 35,000 in the summer months, as the mountain opens to seasonal visitors.

Pinetop-Lakeside's central location makes it an ideal point from which to access the many scenic and recreational opportunities the White Mountains. With over 40 lakes within 40 miles of town, hunting, hiking, fishing, golf, tennis, horseback riding, and mountain biking are excellent here. Skiing, snow boarding, tubing and snow shoeing are fantastic at Sunrise Ski Resort on the White Mountain Apache Reservation.

In the heart of the community is 580 acre Woodland Lake Park, providing an array of municipal and recreational activities for visitors and residents alike. Lakeside, Arizona'a new Mountain Meadow Recreational Complex on Woodland Road, which includes three soccer fields and two Little League fields.
